Saturday Manchester Ship Canal Cruise Following a quick visit to Liverpool we travel to the Wirral to join the Mersey Ferries ship for a fascinating six hour leisurely cruise along the whole length of the Manchester Ship Canal. The 35 mile cruise includes live commentary and takes in some spectacular scenery as we journey through one of Britain’s most important waterways. Refreshments and snacks are available on board. Upon arrival at Salford Quays at 6pm the coach will be waiting to take us back to our hotel with time to settle in before dinner.
Sunday Today we have a full day excursion to the historic city of Chester. Originally a roman fortress, it was once a major trading port with a massive harbour, and one of the most important strategic outposts of the Roman Empire. The city’s cathedral, founded as a Benedictine Monastery, is the most complete medieval monastic complex still standing in the UK. Another distinctive feature of this city is The Rows, double level walkways with a continuous line of balconies stacked on top of each other at street and first floor levels. Return to the hotel in good time for dinner.
Monday After a leisurely breakfast we make our way home over the Pennines, stopping off at Holmfirth (Last of the Summer Wine country) en route.
