SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Monday Morning pick up from your local joining point then travel to Torquay with a stop at Stratford upon Avon en route to arrive in good time for dinner. On our first evening we will have an introductory talk on ‘Agatha Christie: Literary Daughter of South Devon’.
Tuesday Meet the Gardener at Coleton Fishacre, home of the D’Oyley Carte family of Savoy Theatre fame, exploring the Arts and Crafts style house as well as the luxuriant coastal garden with its stunning camellia collection and extraordinary rill water feature.
Wednesday Today we take the Greenway ferry up the River Dart to arrive at Agatha Christie’s holiday home in traditional style, with an informative commentary from a local historian. Meet the Gardener at this truly ‘secret’ garden which is a haven of peace and tranquillity with stunning views of the Dart Estuary, a newly restored Peach House and the Camellia Walk (during March, April and May). The house is also newly restored and a nostalgic treat, with visitors being encouraged to daydream sitting in the drawing room or browse the books and marvel at the frieze painted by servicemen during the 2nd World War.
Thursday Stroll the Agatha Christie Mile with guide to fully appreciate the haunts that inspired the Queen of Crime, and then meet the Gardener at Torre Abbey to hear all about its fascinating Potent Plant collection and perhaps sing around the Mulberry Tree!!
Friday Depart hotel after breakfast. We will make a stop at Gloucester Docks (or other venue to suit) en route home. Return to pick up points during the early evening.
